Himachal is located between 30°22' and 30°12' north latitude and between 75°47' and 79-4' east longitude. Himachal is bordered by Jammu and Kashmir in the North, Uttaranchal in the South-East, Haryana in the South and Punjab in the West. Tibet lies in the East. Zanskar range separates Himachal Pradesh from Tibet. The territory is mountainous with altitude ranging between 350 to 7000 meters above the sea level. Total length of Himachal from north-west part of Chamba to south-east part of Kinnaur is 355 km. The breadth of Himachal Pradesh is 270 km from south-west part of Kangra to north-east of Kinnaur.

Accessibility: Himachal is well connected by Road, Rail and Air. The most popular mode of transport is by Road. Three national Highways cris-cross Himachal Pradesh. Highway No. 20 enter Himachal Pradesh through Pathankot, which connect Nurpur, Dharamshala, Palampur, Joginder Nagar, and ends at Mandi. Highway No. 21 starts from Chandigarh and goes upto Leh via Bilaspur, Mandi, Kullu, Manali. National Highway No. 22 starts from Ambala and goes upto Kinnaur via Solan, Shimla, Narkanda and Rampur. There are three main airports in Himachal at 'Jubbarhatti' near Shimla, 'Gaggal' near Kangra and 'Bhunter' near Kullu. There are two narrow gauge lines between Kalka to Shimla and Pathankot to Joginder Nagar.

 

Climate: The varying altitude dictates the climate of the State. Except a few low laying areas and the cold desert in the north, the state enjoys a cool temperate climate all the four seasons. A rainy season however is a local addition.
