The
number of hot water springs are found at many places in Himachal Pradesh.
The Manikaran, and Vashisht have been developed as sports of tourists
attraction in the Kullu Valley with the unique distinction of possessing
mineral and thermal springs.
Generally the three types of water springs are
observed in Himachal Pradesh : Ordinary Springs (just
like any ordinary springs coming out from an underground source to surface),
Mineral Water Springs (contain water with some mineral dissolved in it) and
thermal water springs (high temperature water) .

Manikaran Hot Water Springs:
Hot water spring are found in
Manikaran valley in the range of 4km. i.e. Kasol to Braham Ganga.
But the main and the hottest springs are found at Manikaran. Here
the hot water spring gush out from below the rocks. The temperature
of of water is 88°C to 94°C. The water has a good teste but
processes calcium carbonate that is evident from the crust at the
bottom. The regular dip in the water cures gastric trouble and
rheumatic pains. The rice can be cooked in the hottest spring in
twenty minutes. Pulses are cooked in the closed pails submerged in
hot water with a weight on it to avoid tilting. |

Vashisht
Hot Water Springs:
Vashisht village is famous
for its Hot water springs. The hot water comes out here underneath
the rocks. The water is hot due to the presence of sulpher, calcium
and salice and the sulpher can easily be smelt from the rising
steam. The temperature of the water is 123°F at the month of the
spring but in the tank it is 111°F. These springs are very sacred. A
legend goes that Laxmana who visited this Ashrma of Vashisht, found
that his Guru had to go far off for his bath. He shot an arrow at
this place and the water came oozing out.
The tourist department has made Turkish
baths about 500 meters far from the village. The hot water has been
carried through insulated pipes. One has to pay charges for use of
these baths. The hot water is good for treatment of skin diseases. |

Khirganga
Hot Water Springs:
Kheer Ganga is
situated on a steep medow. It is a hot water spring. The white
sulpher particales are seen sticking at the bottom, on both sides of
the spring or floating like milk cream here and there. Due to these
particals, the water looks white. So it has been named Kheer Ganga.
The water source is quite large.
There is an inn for the night stay and a
free food (Lungar) service is also available |
