Famous Lakes in Himachal Pradesh

Rewalsar Lake: Rewalsar lake is situated at a distance of 29 km. by road from manditown.  This spot originally - as per the  traditional  belief was  choosen as  a  place of  retirement  and  devotion  by  the great Rishi Lomus of Skandh Purana. The Rishi who used to bath in the water of Ganga and Yamuna rivers joined  these  with his  supreme  power  and the grace of God to form this lake for his bathing ritual. It has assumed tremendous importance as a place of  worship by  Hindus,  Sikhs   and   Budhists   who   all  have  temples,  A Gurudwara and a Budhist Monastery.

Parashar Lake: Parashar lake  is  situated in  District Mandi.  The small vehicle goes  upto  the  lake.   One  has  to  follow   the  link  road   Khaliyar  (Mandi town)  via  Kataula.   The other link road is from Bajaura to  Baggi through  Kandhi to reach the place.  An other approach road is from Jawalapur but the last part of the journey of 10 km. is totally on foot. The lake is situated at the height of 9000 feet.  All around there are hills making a circle of 1.5 km. There is a  temple  of  Parashar  Rishi on  the bank of the  lake. The place provides wide spectrum of nature.

Chandratal Lake : Mulkila range in central Lahaul is decked by Chandratal Lake at a height of 4000 mt. This ethereal lake can be approached by an exiting trek of four days from Manali.

Renuka Lake : Renuka lake in Sirmaur is regarded as the  embodiment of the godess renuka  and is  the  largest  natural lake in the state. Boating is available on the lake.  A fair is  held here every year in the month of November, which attracts devotees and tourists. This legendary natural lake is believed to have been formed when Renuka was sacrificed by her son Parsuram in compliance with his father's wishes.

Bhrigu Lake: Bhrigu Lake is  situated  in  district  Kullu.  The  path to the lake starts  from  Vashishtha village (near Manali). The  distance  of lake  from  here  is  6 km. 

Dashauhar Lake: Dashauhar Lake  is  situated  in  district Kullu.  It is 25 km. from Manali. Bus service is available up to Marhi and the rest of the  path is to be  traversed.

Manimahesh Lake: is situated in Distt. Chamba. Its distance from Bharmour is 35 km.

Nako Lake: Nako lake is located in Pooh ( Kinnaur district )

Khajjiar Lake: An easy trek from Dalhousie takes you into grassy hollow having a beautiful lake surrounded by pine trees.

Dal Lake: Dal lake is situated at Mclodganj (Dharamsala, District Kangra)

Govind Sagar : Govind Sagar lake is man made marvelous reservoirs

Maharana Pratap Sagar (Pong Dam Lake): The Pong dam and the surrounding shallow water of the lake
